Preventive maintenance

Maintenance is the least dramatic work we do and the easiest to put off. It is also the cheapest way to avoid a failure in the middle of the first cold week of the year.

What this covers

A maintenance visit is a check of how the system is actually operating: the heating side, the cooling side, airflow, the filter and the controls. If something is starting to go, this is when it is cheapest to deal with.

When homeowners call

Situations we see most.

  • The system has not been looked at in a year or more.
  • You want the heating checked before the first cold week.
  • You want the cooling checked before the first hot stretch.
  • You just bought the house and do not know the system’s history.
  • You want to keep an existing warranty in good standing.

A yearly check on each side of the system — heating before the cold months, cooling before the warm ones — is the usual rhythm for residential equipment. Filters generally need attention more often than that, depending on the filter and the house.
